Ahmedabad Heritage walk is an interesting walk through narrow lanes of the city, where you can see old structure and can understand traditional life style & city management with its technical and scientific aspect through the walk. The walk also includes outer view of Havelis and visit of temples, mosques and local markets. In 2017, UNESCO declared Ahmedabad as the World Heritage city and its a walk though the World heritage city.
Ahmedabad is the only World Heritage city of India.. It has so much to offer to tourists . Ahmedabad city tour, Ahmedabad Heritage walk, Architecture tour of Ahmedabad. Monuments, museums, culture, architecture, food etc.. You can see three chronological layers of the city. Traditional Ahmedabad, Mughal era and pre Mughal era, British rule & independence movement as Ahmedabad was Gandhiji's headquarter for independence movement for many years. And today's Ahmedabad as commercial capital and biggest city of Gujarat state.
In Ahmedabad city tour we will visit
Gandhi Ashram, Hatising jain Temple, Adalaj step well, Jumma mosque, Sidi sayd mosque, local markets etc..
Ahmedabad has some very interesting museums including world famous Calico Textile museum. which is Asia's largest textile museum and heaven for textile lovers. Ahmedabad has utensil museum,vintage car museum, kite museum, tribal museum, painting gallery, museum for history of Ahmedabad, Ganddhi gallery with description about independence movement & Gandhiji's life. Most of these museums are closed once in a week on different days. In Calico museum, they allow restricted number of visitors only once in a day. so we will visit as many as possible.
SOME MUSEUMS REMAIN CLOSE ONCE IN A WEEK AND ON PUBLIC HOLIDAYS. SO WE CAN ONLY VISIT IF OPEN, TO VISIT CALICO MUSEUM, ADVANCE BOOKING IS NECESSARY.
Heritage tour of Ahmedabad is full day tour, in which we will see ancient Step wells, Havelis, temple, mosques and traditional markets. So is longer version of Heritage walk but in this tour we will walk as well as drive also to different places. We will also have our meal to a traditional restaurant where we can eat Gujarati food.
We will see around 3 step wells in and around the city. we will visit one Haveli from inside and a few more from from outside. We will visit traditional regular markets as well as seasonal market where the sellers change their product according to the season. Depending upon the time and interest of tourists we can visit areas to see the traditional lifestyle of the city.
Apart from visiting some beautiful temples and mosques, we will visit the museum of traditional items. We will also have a meal in a decent traditional restaurant as Gujarat is famous for its hospitality and verity of food and dishes.
Ahmedabad is an ideal city for those who are interested in architecture as Le Corbusier, Louis Kahn, Charles Correa, B. V. Doshi etc. . have designed buildings here. Apart from these it has old step wells, temples and mosques and the old city with narrow lanes are worth visiting. It also has some very modern project for the city like Sabarmati river front and BRTS too Ahmedabad architecture has a very wide rage of architecture from ancient to modern style of buildings .
Two to three days are needed for Architecture tour of Ahmedabad as there are some more places like CEPT & NID. We can also visit office of Mr. Doshi who worked with Le Corbusier for four years in Paris..
Le Corbusier was invited to India By first Prime Minister of India to design Chandigarh city. He also visited Ahmedabad and designed a few buildings here. Two of them are private properties and out of which permission to visit is given after providing passport details. So in Architectural tour of Ahmedabad will try to visit some of buildings designed by Le /Remaining two can be visited on general days (Mill Owner's Association remains close on Sunday and Sanskar Kendra remains closed on Monday)
IIM is an educational Institute, spread over 67 acres area which was designed by famed American architect Louis I. Kahn. He conceived the design as a blend of austerity and majesty. He included spaces for casual interaction while achieving a balance between modernity and tradition that captured the spirit of timeless India. The broad airy corridors, the amphitheater like classrooms and transition spaces in the complex enhance interaction among the faculty, students and visitors. His design was given shape by a team of architects from the National Institute of Design.
Ahmedabad nominated as World Haritage city in 2015-16 and declared as World Heritage city in 2017 by UNESCO.
